Make sure to check your seeds each day to check how they're growing.
Troubleshooting
Alfalfa is an easy-to cultivate seed that can sprout in between 2 and 6 days. Here are some signs to watch out for when your seeds fail to germinate within this period.
Too dry. Seeds require water to develop. Alfalfa seeds soak about own weight in water before they germinate, and look larger. If your seeds are dry they will not sprout. To make sure the seeds don't get sucked up in water, add more onto your plate. You can also try soaking the seeds for a few hours; however, make sure you drain them and rinse them with clean water prior to spreading them on the paper towel.
Too moistIf the seeds are too moist, the new roots and shoots could rot before they have a chance to develop. The seeds could also turn mouldy. It's fine for the paper towel to get wet however, the seeds shouldn't be floating on water. Each time you mist or water the seeds, drain the excess water.
Too cold or hot: Alfalfa grows best in temperatures between 20 and 25°C. If you are growing your seeds during winter, keep them in a cool spot inside. It is possible that you will need to water your seeds more frequently when you plant them in extreme temperatures. They'll dry more quickly.
