Illinois has witnessed a significant expansion of foreign investments in recent years. Countries such as Britain, Japan, Germany and China were among the most invested in Illinois in 2023. By that time, the amount reached over USD $13.2 billion in manufacturing, agribusiness and other industries in Illinois alone.
Since 2014, nearly $1 billion in incentives were awarded under Illinois Reimagining Energy and Vehicles program to companies that provide electric vehicles as well as clean energy production. This month, DCEO also rewarded PsiQuantum Manufacturing with an incentive package of more than $200 million to build a state-of-the-art facility in East Alton.
Governor JB Pritzker was present along with representatives from his organization, Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Network and local officials today in Chicago to inaugurate CZ Biohub Chicago - a cutting-edge research hub that is at the forefront of cutting-edge scientific research. This project will bring together University of Chicago, Urbana-Champaign State University (UIUC) and Northwestern University researchers to study human tissue development as to develop innovative therapeutics.
Governor JB Pritzker and Flender Corporation recently announced they are expanding their current manufacturing facility in Elgin which will create 50 full-time positions while keeping the 140 full-time jobs they have currently.
The Illinois Small Business Development Center located at Southern Illinois University is funded partly through a cooperative arrangement between U.S. Small Business Administration, Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and Southern Illinois University. The center provides local entrepreneurs with assistance in beginning or expanding their business through programs such as free business planning workshops and one-on-one sessions with expert Business Advisors and access to financing options.
State officials in Indiana are encouraging employers to offer higher salaries and benefits as a way to keep child care employees in the United States and facing a lack of job. This follows the closing of a children's care facility located in Bronzeville which struggled to retain employees.
Illinois Department of Labor also has launched an online tool to help small businesses understand lawful employment practices. Employers can search using keywords or browse through categories on this website, as well as connect to state agencies and sources.
Illinois Business Development Authority (IBDA) is working to increase awareness about Illinois' tax incentives for business expansion. The IBDA hosted a webinar this week on the subject. The webinar was recorded and will be archived on their website.
