I capped the morning of island-hopping back in town with a late lunch of Garlic Prawns at Cafe Old Sailor Resto Bar. This small German-owned bar serves dishes like Beef Goulash, German Meatloaf, Hungarian Sausage with french fries, Schnitzel, homemade spatzle plus a range of imported beers, cocktails and fruit shakes. The day before, I had ridden to the area where you can park motorcycles just and walk to the beach and sandbar, but it was getting dark, so I didn’t proceed. Seeing it up close in broad daylight with the sun shining down on the water was just amazing. Arriving here just before lunch, our boat docked at one of the white sand beaches on the western part of the island where we could rent a hut and had lunch prepared for us. However, instead of spending time snorkeling here, we heeded the advice of people back in Romblon town and headed for a destination called Tinagong Dagat (hidden sea Peaceful Retreat in Romblon English) at the northern tip of the island. We were told – and later confirmed it from a picture we saw on a news website – that this is a pool of water with a maximum depth of 2 meters, concealed by a wall of surrounding rock formations. Our boat pulled up right next to the island, where cement stairs are built into the island. Normally with cliff jumping in the Philippines, it is a battle to get back up the cliffs and to avoid cutting yourself on the sharp rocks.
